If you are thinking about trying something that challenges your physical limits you might be thinking about trying “endurance sports.” This is not a simple challenge. As a matter of fact, it will test your physical limits more so than you can ever imagine. But what might be harder than completing an endurance sport is actually picking out which endurance sport is right for you. There are more than your tradition triathlon, iron man and marathon. There are other sports out there that will test your physical limits. Picking the right one can be the difference in making your training fun or an absolute nightmare.
If cycling is something that you like then there is something called the 24-Hour Mountain Bike Race. This consists of one cyclist, or more commonly a team of cyclists, working together to complete a lap on the track and at the end of 24 hours the team that has completed the most laps is the winning team. Usually it’s not more than 24 or 25 laps completed in a day as a result of the rough terrain.
There is also something called the Extra Mile Endurathon. This is a German invented race where the participants walk, not run, through a designed racecourse and walk until they simply can’t walk anymore. It is that simple in theory but it is a grueling course usually and can take a mental and physical toll on its participants.
If you are a runner and like a challenge then you might want to try the Skyrunner World Series which is an athletic competition of races at high altitudes. The competition has going since 2003 and consists of six different races; but be warned: this is only for the truly experienced athlete and in most cases will require a bit of traveling. These are just a few of the races for you to choose from.
