Snowboarding and Jibbing

Snowboarding is one of the world’s most popular sports. It has even grown to the level of becoming its own Olympic event. Still, there is so much that the casual observer, and someone who has never tried snowboarding, knows about the sport. For instance, there are more than a few techniques for snowboarding, but unless you have spent time around the sport or its participants you might not be aware of that.

One of the styles that snowboarders use is jibbing. If you aren’t clear what that is a better way to educate is to remind you of a skateboarder. If you have ever seen a skateboarding video then you might be familiar with a classic trick called “grinding.” This is where they jump the skateboard onto a rail and slide their board down the rail. So when a snowboarder gets their board up and rides on anything other than snow it’s considered jibbing. What might surprise you is that though snowboarding is done on snow, jibbing can be done on benches, ledges, rocks and boxes. So you won’t be seeing jibbing done on a traditional skiing him but rather in a resort or park dedicated to snowboarding.

This is similar to free riding. Free riding is the most common of the snowboarding styles. This involves jibbing but doing so on any surface available. This could be doing tricks as well or riding down a broken tree or anything else that found. This is equivalent to free running where a runner just goes wherever they have to in order to make the run successful and worry not about the obstacles. But of course this type of boarding is only okay if you have been trained and have the experience to do so. If you don’t then you might want to stick to more traditional styles before you try it.
