The Art of Free Running

Some of you go out for your morning jog and the goal is for you to find a nice long stretch of quiet, flat land for you to run on. It’s about clearing your mind while you get the blood pumping. However, none of that involves scaling a wall or jumping over a series of obstacles on your way back. If you are doing this then you have entered the world of free running. If you are familiar with it then you know it can be one of the most fun and free experiences of your life. If you have never had the pleasure then you are probably scratching your head right now waiting for an explanation.

Free running is a type of urban acrobatics where people will use the objects in the city to guide their movements. The key to doing free running is to be fluid in your movements through structures and obstacles. If there were a bench in your way, a traditional runner would avoid the bench altogether where a free runner would either clear the bench with a jump or vault off of it onto a nearby branch swinging themselves over to the ground and continuing their run. Those who cannot do this in urban areas are often found doing this at gymnasiums.

The fact is that while this experience is freeing, it may also be illegal in many urban areas. They tend to not take kindly to citizens running about and doing acrobatics all over their property. There would be a lawsuit if a runner were to be injured swinging or jumping from the apparatus. So it is cautioned against. In the right rural area this might be more possible to pull off; however, it might be difficult to find the right amount of clutter to make the run effective.
