Types of Snowboarding Competitions

If you have ever seen snowboarding on TV, you know that it is one of the most exciting sports anywhere in the world but what you might not know is that there are many ways for a snowboarder to compete in a competition. Just like a foot race has different distances and obstacles, snowboarders have many different ways they can test their skill and thrill audiences worldwide.

There is the slopestyle where competitors perform tricks as they come down the course and move around and then down the features of the terrain. The courses are usually full of many different obstacles like boxes, jibs, and jumps. It creates some of the most entertaining snowboarding you can possibly watch. When snowboarders compete in a slopestyle contest they are given the option to choose the kind of course they want to go down and what kind of obstacles, objects, or props they will use. Of course all of these things play a huge factor in how well they do or what their score is but the most important factor is their style. It’s about making tricks look good, not about making tricks that are complicated.

Another event is called Big Air; this is where the competitors and riders do a series of tricks after a manmade jump which was used specifically for the event but serves no other purpose to the boarders. It’s not just about getting up high and landing cleanly. If a snowboarder is going to win the competition, it is most often expected that they do a trick in order to win the prize. However, there are some competitions that are based solely on the height and landing. Either way these two are just two of many ways that snowboarders can compete for the prize.
